Gum Disease, Adding Risks To Heart Attack

Studies haves shown that people having severe gum disease are more likely to increase their risk of heart attacks, stroke and other cardiovascular problems compared with people having mild forms of the disease. Gum disease is a risk factor for cardiovascular disease.

Bacteria that infect the gums and teeth may spread below the gum line and enter the blood stream affecting other parts of the body system such as the heart. People who are at-risk for cardiovascular disease or have signs of gum disease to consult with a dentist experienced with treating periodontal disease. Regular periodontal screening and evaluations, treatment and professional maintenance are critical to long term management of periodontal disease.

The key to successful gum disease prevention is proper oral hygiene combined with nutrition-rich food and regular dental check ups.
